The food you eat and the nutrients you body gets do have a bearing on your height. If your body does not get the right vitamins and minerals it can stunt your natural growth process because your body doesn’t have everything it needs to function correctly.
Although food alone won’t make you inches taller (you should also do some grow taller exercises, stretching etc.) neither are there any specific foods to eat to grow taller.
It is more a matter of consuming foods with the right vitamins and minerals, for example foods that are high in calcium are important for the growth of your bones. Therefore foods such as milk, cheese and yoghurt are recommended.
Vitamin D is also important and although this is mostly gained through sun exposure it can also be found in foods such as salmon, sardines, shrimp, milk and cod. Many breakfast cereals which are fortified with vitamins also contain vitamin D and other important vitamins to maximize growth.
Protein is important for the growth process. Each protein contains various amino acids and these amino acids have a number of different roles in the body. The two most important amino acids are Lysine (for the absorption of calcium) and Leucine (for the growth and repair of skin and muscle).
A general recommendation for protein is that you consume one gram of protein for every pound of body weight.
Foods that are high in protein include meat, fish, eggs, dairy products such as cheese, beans, nuts and seeds.
